The 6–8 Writing Series will explore how to incorporate reader's and writer's workshops at the secondary level. In this overview of the workshop model, participants will learn how to create a community of learners through thoughtful classroom routines and expectations, mini-lessons, and small-group instruction. When students have mentor texts and see writing modeled by their teachers, they become equipped with the tools and critical knowledge necessary to improve their writing. Participants in this workshop will learn how to use mentor texts and the writing-aloud process to teach students the strategies that writers employ to make their writing meaningful, thoughtful, focused, and coherent. While the series is most impactful when information from both sessions is combined, each session is also individually beneficial for professional learning.

Cost: $275 per session

All sessions (unless otherwise noted) are six-hour sessions (8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.).
